Los Angeles, CA, January 25, 2006—Two college students, Uri Bogler and Spencer Nikosey, have recently launched MusicSurprise.com, a pixel advertising site dedicated to increasing the exposure of music-related websites. MusicSurprise.com is a virtual music billboard featuring clickable images (logos, etc.) that link music fans to music websites. This visual search method makes it easy for fans to discover new music. Over 60 ads have been posted since the official launch of MusicSurprise.com on December 15th. Anthill Trading Limited LLC, a licensing and merchandising company, purchased pixel ad space on behalf of its clients the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, David Bowie, Gavin Degraw, and Velvet Revolver. Musicsurprise.com also features ads for up-and-coming artists like Matisyahu and Stars, as well as ads for MySpace bands, audio blogs, podcasts, webzines, and record labels. At the cost of $1 per pixel, MusicSurprise.com offers an affordable advertisement platform to promote anyone, big or small, involved with the online music world. “We’re leveling the playing field for music websites of all sizes to use the same advertisement method,” says Spencer. “Where else can independent bands get the opportunity to advertise next to some of the biggest bands in the world?”
Spencer and Uri, both twenty-two year-old musicians from the Los Angeles area, were inspired by Alex Tew and his Million Dollar Homepage, the first ever pixel-advertising site. Established in August 2005, The Million Dollar Homepage has already sold out of pixel ad space. “We were impressed by pixel advertising’s capacity to expose users to parts of the Internet they wouldn’t have found through a conventional search engine,” says Uri. “There is so much music on the net, it’s hard to know how and where to find it. MusicSurprise.com takes a variety of music websites and organizes them visually, enabling users to arrive at an unexpected music site when they click on any pixel image.
